About a month ago "HELP BRING MOLLIE HOME" was published on the Petition Site. Mollie, my Mother, was forced in a nursing home against her will by her son. Mollie wasn't ill, she wasn't dying and didn't need skilled care. There was no reason Mollie should be in a nursing home.
I stayed with Mollie as her caregiver for over three years. It proved to be successful keeping Mollie in a home environment. Mollie went into the nursing home short term because I was having surgery. Mollie understood, once I recovered I would resume her care.
Mollie wrote a letter stating she wanted me to be the assistant power of attorney. Mollie wanted me to take care of her medical and personal needs and the son to pay Mollie's bills using her income. This angered the son, he refused Mollie's wishes. Before my surgery I found out the son was going to keep Mollie in the nursing home permanently. This was Mollie's worse fear! The son knew I was Mollie's Advocate and would fight for her rights. August 17, 2007 the son Stopped Mollie and I from seeing one another at the nursing home. This gave the son time to bully and break Mollie down into submission before we went to Court for the Guardianship Hearing, November 14, 2007. The son showed no mercy for his 89 year old Mother. He severed Mollie's apartment lease and threw me out on the street to guarantee Mollie would not have a home to return to when we went to Court. I filed for guardianship of Mollie's person "only." I don't know the law, I thought if I was the guardian, I could free Mollie from a very bad situation and she could live with me in my home.
In 2003 the son assigned himself "health" power of attorney without Mollie's or the familie's knowledge. Mollie loves all her children and trusted the son to do what was right.
The son has a law enforcement position, his attorney is friends with the Judge. Being Mollie's caregiver for over three years and keeping her alive was not recognized by the Judge. Mollie receiving poor care and almost dying while in the nursing home under the son's control was not considered by the Judge. My evidence of tape recordings where Mollie and I were harassed by the nursing home social worker, under the son's instructions, was not considered by the Judge. Pictures of Mollie's poor care at the nursing home compared to pictures of Mollie at home clearly showing she's well, happy, clean and content was not considered by the Judge.
At the November 14, 2007 Hearing, the Judge's only consideration was the son's position in law enforcement. The Judge stated, " he was giving the son guardianship because of his position in the community, the judge stated, " the son is suitable and willing."
The son's position had nothing to do with being a caregiver for Mollie. Not once did the Judge take into consideration Mollie's medical or personal needs or even her wishes, she was not even allowed in the Court room.
The son had never had any experience in taking care of Mollie's medical or personal needs. This is another reason Mollie has endured the unnecessary pain and suffering at the nursing home. He has never had any hands on care with Mollie. The son spent little time with Mollie through out the years due to his work obligations. An Ombudsman Advocate for the elderly could testify, there was reason to question the validity of the son's health power of attorney papers he submitted at the guardianship hearing. Not even this was considered to release Mollie from the son's bondage. The son is Not "Suitable, "and is only "willing" as long as someone else takes care of Mollie.
The son stated, "Mollie gets twenty four seven care at the Heartland Nursing Home. This is not true! See the picture of Mollie's abusive, negligent care of her legs at Heartland nursing home!
This is not 24/7 Care!
Mollie's legs were "Healed" Before she went into the Heartland Nursing Home in Hillsboro Ohio.
On September 15, 2008 pictures were taken of Mollie's legs that have huge bleeding wounds with infection seeping out. You can clearly see by the picture the bandages have not been changed for a awhile. Due to the swelling the bandages are wrapped too tight, cutting off circulation. In order to prevent this abusive poor care, the nursing home only had to keep Mollie's legs elevated most of the day. It's that simple to keep her legs healed.
The pictures were sent to The Ohio State Health Department along with my 31 incident reports of Mollie's poor care. Also sent, was tape recordings of Mollie and I being harassed by the social worker, at the Heartland Nursing Home. It made no impact with their investigator.
The day of the guardianship hearing Mollie was rushed to emergency. Mollie couldn't breathe. Along with poor blood circulation in her legs Mollie has congestive heart failure, this is another reason Mollie must keep her legs elevated, it helps the blood get back to the heart. The social worker stated to me, "they weren't going to make Mollie keep her legs elevated."It was explained, " it wasn't an option." If Mollie's legs aren't kept elevated, she will have serious medical problems. The picture above confirms this happened.
Nine days after the Guardianship Hearing, Mollie was found on the nursing home floor, in a pool of blood with her head busted open. The nursing home staff and the son ignored a sore on Mollie's finger for months until her hand swelled twice it's size. Mollie was rushed to emergency.
The nursing home refused to do monthly urine cultures per/ doctors orders. Mollie had to have blood transfusions because the ifnfection went into her blood stream which almost killed her. The numerous urinary track infections could have been controlled by doing the monthly urine cultures. Mollie had Kidney failure. Mollie sat in her urine and feces for months which caused seriouis problems. Due to the son being inept to understand Mollie's medical and personal needs, he missed all the Warning signs, when Mollie was in great need of medical help and treatment. Due to this fact, Mollie has suffered "Unnecessary," extreme pain and mental distress.
The Ohio State Health Department stated, "Unless they're on site to see the abuse they cannot report it." Their inspector refused to talk to witness's that visited Mollie at the nursing home, that could verify, Mollie was not receiving proper care. Their inspector ignored all my incident reports of Mollie's poor care. Their inspector reviewed medical reports that was logged by the nursing home staff. The nursing home staff is not going to reveal any wrong doing in writing. The inspector only spoke to the guardian which banished all hopes of Mollie being rescued.
It is unbelievable what has been allowed to happen to Mollie by the so called experts.
It has been over a year since Mollie and I have seen one another. Thanksgiving and Christmas was heartbreaking. To seperate Mother and daughter at the end of the Mother's life is too cruel! ! I live five minutes away from the nursing home. For our judicial system to give the son the right to destroy his Mother's life because he's associated in law enforcement is alarming.
At 90 years old it only stands to reason, Mollie may soon hear God's voice calling her home. The injustice that was done to Mollie by these honorable men is shameful. If Mollie dies at the Heartland Nursing Home, Mollie's blood will be on their hands.
I have wrote a hundred letters, talked to many people, not one person or one agency for the elderly stepped forward to help Mollie. Pictures don't "Lie"! These agencies refused to see the truth and turned their back on Mollie. If a child was being abused by a parent would no one step forward? Mollie is helpless and vulnerable like a child and needs Help!
PLEASE! GO TO THE PETITION SITE AND SIGN YOUR NAME TO HELP BRING MOLLIE HOME. Mollie's time is running out and she needs "Your Help!" My petition must get to President Elect Obama before it's too late!
Young and old need to understand many of our elderly, are ending up in nursing homes where they are being neglected and abused. Our elders belong to us, they've gone before us and sacrificed, so that "we" would have a better life, they're our family! Changes must be made! many of our elders are suffering. I'm asking America to stand up and help our Elders. New Laws for our elderly and nursing home structure need to change ASAP! In honor of my Mother, Mollie Florkey, the new elder laws need to be called MOLLIE'S LAW!
This morning I called Governor Strickland's office. I made a request for Governor Strickland to send "Offiicals" to escort me into the Heartland Nursing Home to see Mollie. On August 17, 2007, the son informed me, " I could no longer see Mollie," because I did not agree she should be forced in the Heartland Nursing Home against her will. Mollie, stated to me, "Do not write a letter of Apology to the son, for saving my life and do not ask the son if you can see your own Mother." Mollie may have been alone on Christmas and it's important she knows she was not forgotten!
Pleae sign the petition, Mollie and I would be very grateful!
