We the undersigned support President Obama's campaign goals on Environment and Energy, and on Health Care, and perceive a lack of commitment to our goals from Democrats we helped elect to Congress to help pursue those major goals for national policy.
Congressional Republicans perceive no need to negotiate on health care reform, and so far they're right. They have few if any votes to gain by supporting any public health care option and absolutely no chance of increasing their campaign donations from their current list of sponsors, which are overwhelmingly corporate. We all know that Republicans care only about power and popularity, so it doesn't matter to them that a public health care option would promote the general welfare and protect the right to life by offering some federal program to guarantee medical care to those who need it, because such an option would obviously free millions of Americans from the corporate market captivity that Humana, UnitedHealth Group and Aetna bribe members of Congress to protect. Few voters who have any inclination to vote Republican will be more likely to vote for a Republican who supports Liberal health care reform policies, and no corporate donors who invest in Congressional campaigns for the exact purpose of weakening the safety net in order to make their corporations more necessary to more victims ("customers") will increase their donations to such candidates.
But reward is not the only kind of incentive available to Congressional Democrats, and health insurance corporations are not the only donors that are owed favors from Congressional Republicans. They obviously don't want to negotiate, but they can be forced to, by taking away the $70,000,000,000 (Billion) of federal subsidies per year from corporate producers of petroleum, coal, and corn ethanol which also happen to be major corporate donors to Republicans, and the sleaziest lobbyists around. The time is right, as final health care reform negotiations between the House and Senate continue, to put all the pressure we can on those responsible.
If Republicans satisfy their health care lobbyists but lose $70 Billion for their coal, petroleum and Monsanto / Archer Daniels Midland (together, "Big Ag") lobbyists, they'll be swept in November and Liberal Democrats can pass a health care bill with the real public option the voters want: an option for everybody who wants it, funded by a new millionaires' tax not by a union tax. And Congressional Democrats have nothing to lose, except by missing opportunities to do what We The People have already told them to do, which is to pursue President Obama's campaign agenda. We demand that Congressional Democrats fully support President Obama, both on global warming and other Environment And Energy issues, and on reforming the country's health care system. If we really have representation commensurate to our taxation, Progressives in Congress must commit to stopping all corporate subsidies for coal, petroleum and corn ethanol immediately. By voting in favor of legislation removing all restrictions on abortion, financing a universal public option completely with a millionaires' tax and eliminating all union taxes from consideration, Congressional Republicans may earn the possibility of having subsidies for coal, petroleum and corn ethanol phased out over a maximum of five years. That is our final offer to Republicans, Blue Dogs and other conservadems. Take it or leave Congress.
