Trap and Kill, The Bison Herd of Yellowstone National Park Is in Danger of Being Slaughtered.

It wasn't that long ago that the American bison (aka buffalo) was just a stone's throw from the edge of extinction. Due to overhunting and other factors, the enormous herbivore -- which once numbered in the tens of millions in the 1700s -- was down to just 541 individual animals by the end of the 19th century. From that stock, the bison made an impressive and almost impossible bounce back, today numbering around 31,000. But it is still a far cry from what the population used to be centuries ago.

Now, after everything this species has been through, Yellowstone National Park wants to kill up to 900 iconic bison. Sign to demand a nonlethal solution instead!

Yellowstone announced that it has started capturing hundreds of bison in the hopes of reducing the park's overall bison population. At risk are up to 900 animals -- or 1/5th of the park's total population. These animals will not just be rounded up and sent to other parts of the country or national parks, but instead will be held until they are slaughtered for meat and their hide.

Bison herds once roamed the Great Plains of North America where they are now hardly visible, and parks, reserves, and refuges around their traditional habitat would surely welcome a native animal back into their ecosystem. There are other options of bison population control that wouldn't require killing these beautiful animals. That is why we are calling on Interagency Bison Management Plan (IBMP) partners - a collection of federal, state, and tribal groups to drop its plan to kill nearly 1,000 bison and instead find a nonlethal method.

Please sign to save 900 bison if you agree.
