The United Nations has declared reproductive health rights, including access to proper Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), a universal human right.
Excerpts from the Zambia 2017 budget paragraphs 93 and 94 stated that Government included free Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) products for rural and peri-urban schoolgirls. In order to increase and retain attendance of girls in schools, Government would have commenced distribution of free sanitary towels to girls in rural and peri-urban areas in 2017 itself. The distribution of free sanitary towels to girls in rural and peri-urban areas has not happened to date.
