Trump Used Vital Hurricane Relief Money to Fund Child Prisons

In a move that epitomizes Trump's dangerously misguided priorities, his administration has diverted nearly $10 million in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) — even as hurricane season bears down on the United States — to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the agency responsible for his inhumane child detention policy.

In effect, Trump is prioritizing the promulgation of his inhumane "zero-tolerance" family separation policy over the safety of American citizens who are in imminent danger as Hurricane Florence edges closer to the United States. He would rather continue to traumatize innocent children because of the color of their skin than ensure that disaster victims victims have sufficient funding to prepare for what promises to be a devastating hurricane season.

Notwithstanding the fact that Trump and his cronies are climate change deniers — highlighting their refusal to tackle the underlying problems that exacerbate this now-constant flow of once-in-a-lifetime "superstorms" — the fact that they refuse to even prepare for them will inevitably result in the loss of American life.

We demand that the Trump administration return these vital funds to FEMA, take climate change seriously, and abandon its vile policy of separating families at the southern border. It is now well past the time to prioritize.

After the disaster that was Trump's response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, his administration has already proven that it is woefully unprepared to meet the burden of keeping Americans safe in the face of natural disasters; the last thing it needs is less funding on that front.

Enough is enough. Our government's number one responsibility is to keep its citizens safe, and the Trump administration is failing on every front. Return the necessary funds to FEMA before more Americans needlessly die.

Update #1vor 5 Jahren
FEMA just cut hotel funding for nearly 1,000 families displaced by Hurricane Maria. But it probably wouldn't have needed to if Trump hadn't stolen millions from FEMA to fund his child detention policy.
