This Abortion-Shaming Bill Requires Women to Explain Why They're Seeking One

Republicans love to spend their time shaming women who want abortions instead of creating legislation to help women and children already in existence. The latest example of this is a bill in Arizona that would require women to tell the government why they want an abortion. But it's none of their business.

Sign on to tell Arizona legislators to vote against this bill or drop it as it is a huge waste of time and energy to essentially try to dissuade women from getting an abortion.

Women are in charge of their own bodies, a constitutional fact that isn't always well represented in state laws. This bill in Arizona is designed to embarass women, make it harder for them to access an abortion and ultimately send them the message that they are not, in fact, in charge of their bodies.

As it stands, taxpayers have paid the salaries of these mysoginists to create and then lobby for this incredibly paternalistic bill. I would love to see the Arizona legislators who wrote and supported this bill spend all that time on legislation that actually helps women and children.

If these legislators truly cared about lowering the number of abortions, they could spend their time and energy finding ways to get birth control into more women's hands in their state.

But they're not going to do that. They're going to try to abortion-shame women into not following through with what they have decided is best for them.

Sign my petition if you want to tell these legislators to vote no on this bill and then spend their time on something actually helpful.

We know that when women have choices of when and how many times to have children, they and their families fare better in life. Arizona politicians don't care about women, they are interested in shame and control.
