Rescues are an important part of society. They are needed now more than ever, don't give us restrictions or excuses. Give us your help.
This petition is to support the "Friends-In-Need" animal rescue in
Eagle Mountain, Utah. Friends-In-Need has taken all legal steps necessary
to secure a building that will serve as a rescue center in an agricultural area.
They are registered with the state of Utah and are registered with the IRS as a non-profit organization. They have a kennel permit and applied for a conditional use permit.
The conditional use permit was granted under stringent restrictions.
Friends-In-Need is appealing the terms set forth in the conditional use permit that requires all animals to be inside by 6:00pm and that
only groups of four can be (outside in their sectioned play areas) at a time.
They have also been limited to having only 15 animals at the center.
Having been forced by the law to issue this permit this is the Planning Commissions attempt to control the details of the Center, not having any understanding of the needs of the animals or how a center is designed to operate. Most centers do not have these restrictions.
During the Planning meeting the Commission made no attempt to hear any comments from FIN on how the Center planned to operate or how other successful centers operated. As a matter of fact, they were told they didnt want to hear their sales pitch. It had nothing to do with the legal argument at hand and to stick with the issue.
Friends-In-Need is located on over 5.5 acres, which has plenty of room for many animals and their needs of outside activity. The proposed building is designed for solitude and inside play. This is not a typical kennel or boarding business. Friends-In-Need is simply a rescue center that cares about its animals.
This petition restricts the rescue center in many ways. Restrictions are not the answer. Animal's lives and welfare are at stake. What we need is a more open-minded outlook on what animal rescue is all about.
