Dear [Legislator Name],

High out-of-pocket costs and other insurance barriers are keeping patients in Maryland from accessing the innovative care they deserve to live full, healthy lives.

Recently, some health insurance companies have made it harder to afford innovative treatments by enacting copay accumulator adjustment programs which are new programs that prevent patients from counting financial assistance received from manufacturers or nonprofits toward their annual out-of-pocket maximum, leaving many patients with unbearably high medical bills. However, Senate Bill 290 and House Bill 167 will help Maryland patients continue to access the treatments they rely on by requiring that all financial assistance is counted towards any cost-sharing obligations.

As your constituent, I urge you to support SB 290 and HB 167 to ensure that Maryland patients can afford the care they need.

Thank you,
