St. Lucie County Spay/Neuter Ordinance

Support an ordinance that requires all dogs and cats in St. Lucie County to be spayed or neutered unless an unaltered animal permit is obtained by guardian.
In St. Lucie County 6,210 dogs and cats were killed in fiscal year 2003 due to animal overpopulation.

Animal overpopulation is the single largest cause of death for dogs and cats in our country. Nationally up to 10,000,000 are killed annually with an average age of two.

St. Lucie County spent $1,074,555 on animal control services in fiscal 2003. Taxpayers paid to have 6,210 dogs and cats killed. Citizens in St. Lucie County petition for an ordinance to prevent this inhumane animal population control and expense by limiting the breeding of pets. All dogs and cats within St. Lucie County must be spayed or neutered or their guardians must receive an unaltered animal permit.
