We are lobbying to stop Peachtree City's Government from revoking our rights to drive modified golf carts.
Dear Mayor Brown and City Council Members:
By removing our rights to drive whatever type of cart we choose, you are infringing on our freedom as American Citizens to express ourselves. We value our individuality because it is diversity that makes our country strong!
We understand your desire to keep the cart paths safe, however, the cart paths will not be made safer by removing carts that are "altered from manufacturer's specifications for speed, height, width, or noise emission". An entirely factory-equipped golf cart can be driven just as dangerously as what you, the Council, deemed "souped-up". The safe operation of a golf cart resides solely in the operator.
Also, your argument that "the carts with larger tires (i.e. lifted carts) are damaging the paths" is unfounded. It is a fact that these larger tires have more area to spread the weight of the vehicle and therefore do less damage to the path system. Many of the vehicles with larger tires are also, in fact, no wider than a Low Speed Motor Vehicle. The majority of these vehicles are not tall enough to cause damage to the tunnels.
Your ultimatum gives us nothing to work with for those whose carts are currently modified and properly registered with the city and have been for years.
Furthermore, we are displeased with your lack of informing the public about these new modifications to the ordinances and your attempt to slide them into place without a public voice on the matter.
The desired result of this petition is for you to revoke the ordinance amendments involving modifications to golf carts. We hope you will consider your voting citizens when it comes time to make a decision about the ordinance amendments.
