Our Mother's Voice
On June 17th, 2009 our elderly disabled diabetic mother was on her way home from dialysis on a local transportation service in Flint, Mi called Your Ride. She had used this service several times before and on different occassions we had different issues with the company. On this day however, our mother, (who walked with a walker), couldn't safely get off of the bus. The driver tried to help her down by holding onto her but still couldn't get down, so he placed a milk crate on the ground and had her step on that, to step onto the side walk. When she stepped on the milk crate she went through the crate causing several lacerations on her legs. 3 days later she moved to Kentucky and by the following Saturday June 27th, she was placed in Intensive Care with severe sepsis which is an infection of the blood, that was all caused directly by the fall. She remained in ICU and was placed on Life Support for the remaining 3 weeks of her life. This is where we need your help. We feel that the driver that so carelessly and negligently placed our mother on a milk crate should be held accountable for his actions. The Government however, has a law set in place, Which is The Wrongful Death Act, which covers the driver of the company; because of Insurance reasons, should an accident occour. Our mother should have a voice, and with your help maybe we can keep this injustice from happening again to another elderly person who has to depend on a transportation service for medical needs. This petition was created in hopes of gaining support to pass a law to stop elderly abuse. If you come here to create trouble you will be reported and blocked. Thank You for the support!!
