This is a petition asking the Raleigh City Council to take action now to preserve one of Raleigh's most unique streets, Old South Saunders. Please help us get a least a hundred signatures by Decemeber 2nd!

Please Save Old South Saunders Street on December 2nd 2008
The Downtown Western Gateway Small Area Plan and the Saunders North Area Redevelopment Plan are the result of hundreds of hours of work from community members and the Western Gateway Task Force. Please honor their efforts by enacting these specific recommendations now and make it clear that any future MTC plans will have to comply with the existing plans to preserve the character of Old South Saunders Street.
1. Change the transportation plans to maintain the existing width and one way direction of the section of S. Saunders Street extending between W. Cabarrus and W. Lenoir Street St. (Old South Saunders Street).
2. Abandon the former CAMPO plan to connect Glenwood and South Saunders.
These recommendations where made in order to preserve the unique character of this neighborhood and to protect the surrounding areas from high speed traffic. They should be implemented as requested by the plans.
