Stop Anti-Choice Texas Sonogram Bill

The Texas legislature has launched attacks on women's rights -- both the House and the Senate approved bills that would require that women seeking an abortion get a sonogram before undergoing the procedure.

Both measures would require that the doctor perform the sonogram, show it to the woman, force her to describe the image in detail and listen to the fetal heartbeat. The Senate bill requires this to occur up to two hours before the abortion. The more extreme House measure would require it to happen a full 24 hours prior. Plus, under the House bill, any physician who does not comply would lose their medical license.

Gov. Rick Perry already said he would sign the bill, and the legislature is working on compromise legislation.

Politicians should not be inserting themselves and their ideology between women, their doctors and their own consciences. Tell Texas lawmakers to shelve their anti-choice, anti-woman bills.
