FREE COLTER WHITE - College Not Prison
California Cabrillo College student Colter White returned to state prison September 24th not because he did anything wrong but because of a broken justice system. When a man with mental health issues falsely accused Colter as having assaulted him, Colter immediately became a victim of the system. No charges were made by the DA's office but this model student and leader is now sitting in San Quentin with his fate held in the parole boards hands behind closed doors.
Colter White is a respectful, productive and valued member of our education community being held within in over burdened prison system that will cost taxpayers over $31,000 a year while destroying his future. Cabrillo College educational community immediately reached out with over 35 character letters in support of Colter, from full time professors, Deans and the President of Cabrillo College.Colter White has made an incredible positive impact in just 2 short years, he over came all obstacles to enroll at Cabrillo, create a productive life, work, and be a model and mentor for everyone with whom he interacts.*****He maintains a 4.0*****Was elected President of Alpha Gamma Sigma - Cabrillo's Honor Society*****Earned the 2009 Student Affairs Activities Award.*****Won the President's Volunteer Service Award
As a communications major, Colter is in his last year at Cabrillo and recently was accepted to Santa Clara College where he plans to study law.An inspiration to every one who meets him - this man right now is sitting behind bars. Due to this mishandled event Colter faces a year in prison for an alleged parole violation. This is a huge mistake and a grave injustice. If Colter ends up back in prison after all he has accomplished and with no fault of his own, there is only a dysfunctional justice system to blame for it.
Colter has worked endlessly to make a complete turn around in his life and become an outstanding leader in our community. He makes Cabrillo College a better place and over 90 students and faculty proved how much they love Colter when they came out to March & Protest in support of Colter September 25th in dowtown Santa Cruz. Each one stood up - and many more who could not be there, to demand that COLTER WHITE BE SET FREE. Please do the same and sign our petition.
