I need your help. Tell me if I am right... Please

Recently I experienced a difficulty with an airline. I was told I sounded like I had never flown before. I am asking your comments on whether I am right or they are.
As I left one city for another, the aircraft was struck by lightening and we were diverted to another city. Once I got there, I was told I was on my own and the airline didn't have any further responsibility toward me. I asked to be reimbursed about $100 for my rental car. They told me that since it was weather related, they would not do so. Was I right or wrong??
