Save the Department of Agriculture and Keep New Jersey State Parks open

Governor Corzine's proposed state budget threatens the NJ Department of Agriculture and parks and recreation areas.

Agriculture in New Jersey accounts for $82 billion to the state economy and 60,000 jobs. The Department of Agriculture is responsible for gypsy moth control, food safety, farmland preservation, and The Jersey Fresh Campaign, among many important projects. Under the proposed budget, the funding necessary to run this department and these vital programs is uncertain.

In addition, the proposed budget will affect many parks, including Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Stephens State Park, High Point State Park, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, Round Valley Recreation Area, Parvin State Park, Jenny Jump State Forest, Worthington State Forest, Fort Mott State Park, Ringwood State Park , D&R Canal State Park, and Washington Crossing State Park. These parks will remain open, but may not have sufficient staff or funding that would allow patrons to use them for the swimming, fishing, or camping that is customarily offered.

These budget cuts will have a drastic effect on New Jersey's economy and its citizens' quality of life. I urge you to join with me in signing this petition to let Governor Corzine know that these cuts are unacceptable to anyone proud to live in "The Garden State".
