Help Bring tougher laws for animal cruelty

I created this petition to gain as many signatures as I can to put pressure on the government so that they can change the laws to allow courts to impose much tougher sentences and punishment on animal cruelty cases.
I am, as are many others I'm sure, sick of hearing louts get away with paltry sentences.
The cat in the picture is one of mine but before she came to me, she was neglected and sometimes abused. As a result, she is an insecure and nervous cat but with love and support she is becoming a loving and wonderful pet.
With tougher laws, maybe people would think twice before abusing an animal. Please add your signature to this petition. I would love it to reach my intended target.

We the undersigned appeal to you to change the law as regards animal abuse and the penalties imposed. The new legislation has seen a drop in animal cruelty cases but six month prison sentences are not long enough in some cases, particularly when the abuse has continued for a number of years. Longer sentences need to be imposed on serial abusers and in severe cases.
All animals deserve to live a life free from fear and abuse.
