We want democratic reforms in 2010!

Mga minamahal kong kababayan:

Ordinary Filipinos doing what little they can to make things happen, that's the democratic legacy of Ninoy and Cory Aquino.

For Ninoy, the Filipino was worth dying for. For Cory, the Filipino was worth living for. In 1983, Ninoy died trying to restore democracy. In 1986, Cory restored it for us.

In 2010, it will be our turn to carry Cory's mantle and preserve the People Power legacy. Let your voice be heard. Express your power as a people.

Next year's elections provide us an opportunity to strengthen our democratic institutions and the rule of law. In line with our cause on Facebook (www.causes.com/ligafilipina), "Vote out the politics of greed in 2010! Take back our Pilipinas!", we have launched this online petition to make the voice of the Filipino be heard.

We now, therefore, demand that candidates running for president, vice president, senator and congressman publicly pledge to pursue the following reforms:

* A law placing a cap on election campaign contributions to level the political playing field for sincere but lesser candidates;
* A law banning political self-aggrandizement such as officials' names on publicly funded infrastructure;
* A law scrapping the pork barrel to limit the president's hold on Congress and local officials, and minimize political patronage.

My fellow Filipinos, until our public officials learn how to learn how to listen to the Filipino people, they will continue ruling like little kings and feudal lords over us.

Elections give us a say in our government. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Ninoy and Cory Aquino and our other national heroes fought for that right -- for our future.

Be heard! Makiramay, makisama, makiisa. Tuloy ang LABAN!

Sincerely,

Norman Sison

We the sovereign Filipino people have pledged to preserve the democratic legacy of Ninoy and Cory Aquino.

Our democratic gains have been eroded since the 1986 People Power Revolution. But, following the death of former President Corazon Aquino, we have vowed not to make the same mistake twice and allow our democracy to be trampled on so wantonly.

We now, therefore, demand that candidates running for president, vice president, the Senate and the House of Representatives publicly pledge to pursue the following democratic reforms:

* A law placing a cap on election campaign contributions to level the political playing field for sincere but lesser candidates;
* A law banning political self-aggrandizement such as officials%u2019 names on publicly funded infrastructure;
* A law scrapping the pork barrel to limit the president%u2019s hold on Congress and local officials, as well as minimize political patronage.

Too long have the Filipino people helplessly allowed politicians, who claimed to serve the people, to serve only themselves. We are putting an end once and for all. We hereby also make it clear that failure on your part to honor your word shall result in public accountability.

Thank you.
