West Point, Take Back Invitation to Anti- Muslim General

  • von: Concerned Citizens of the World
  • empfänger: West Point Superintendent Lieutenant General David H. Huntoon and the Chief of Staff of the Army General Raymond T. Odierno

The United States Military Academy at West Point has invited Lieutenant General William Boykin to speak at their National Prayer Breakfast on February 8th, 2012. ThinkProgress.org reports that Lieutenant General Boykin is well know for his hate speech and rants about how Muslims do not belong in the United States.

According to ThinkProgress, Boykin has made statements like, "Islam should not be protected under the First Amendment," and "Muslims are trying to destroy our Constitution."

Many people, including war veterans and Pentagon inspectors, have advised authorities of the harm of Lieutenant General Boykin's statements. West Point's invitation of Lieutenant General Boykin to speak implies their support for him and his opinions.

Tell the Superintendent and the Chief of Staff that Lieutenant General Boykin should be disinvited for his bigoted, anti-Islam statements.

We the undersigned sincerely ask that you take back your invitation to Lieutenant General William Boykin to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast on February 8, 2012. Lieutenant General Boykin is well known for his disrespectful anti- Muslim speeches and should not be allowed to speak as he will offend and harm Muslims all around the world. Speaking at an event such as this should be an honour for a respectful and admirable leader, not one who cuts others down because of their religion or views. War veterans have asked that Lieutenant General Boykin not be allowed to speak as he will put soldiers in danger while serving in Muslim countries. If he does speak, what he says will be viewed as the opinion of the military as a whole and will damage the relationships that the United States has with Muslims around the world.

Please rescind your invitation to Lieutenant General Boykin.

Thank you.
