There has been a growing concern of teachers having to pay high fees to take an exam that determines there ability to become a Florida certified teacher. The initial price of the GKT exam is $130 and $150 for retakes of each section of the exam failed. The initial fee for the FTCE subject area exam is $200 and $220 for retakes. Also, there is little to no feedback after taking the exam to help test takers learn from their mistakes and pass the retake exam. There are teachers with advance degrees failing and retaking this exam numerous times. On top of this, they are given deadlines from their employer to pass these exams or be faced with losing their jobs. Something needs to be done to fix this issue. The State and Pearson Vue (who administers the exams) are clearly ripping off teachers and depriving our youth of receiving high quality education from teachers who deserve to be in the classroom, not forced out of the education work field because of an exam they cannot seem to pass. Take a stand today and sign the petition to put an end to high test fees and unreasonable deadlines for teachers to pass these exams with horrible passing rates!
