    Re: Educational Funding

    Dear Vijay Thanigasalam,

We are writing to you because we are concerned about provincial government cuts to education. We are not happy about decreasing the funds by $25 million for Ontario’s education and cancelling special needs and autism classes. By doing so, the music and art programs get jeopardized. These programs make us well-rounded members of society and enable us to be more creative when solving problems in the future. Increasing class sizes that the government proposed, will make us less successful because it’s hard for teachers to help each and everyone one of us in the bigger classes. It is already very difficult for teachers to help each student one on one and provide us with everything we need. Also, these cuts to education will be decreasing the budget per class, so that schools can not buy as much technology and the needed things for students to do as well as they can in school. In addition, the idea of making more online courses mandatory and cutting actual teachers in classes will make it even more difficult for Intermediate and Secondary School Students to be successful, which may result in an increase of high school dropouts. Furthermore, decreasing the OSAP funds will lead to lowering student loans making it more financially difficult for them to stay in school.
We are asking you to present this letter to The Legislative Assembly and Premier, Doug Ford.

On behalf of the students and parents of Thomas L. Wells Public School,
    Yours truly,

    Pirakash Rajasekaran and Avinash Kaliyanasunthar
