Canada, Stop Censoring Science

Scientists are not allowed to talk to the media without a chaperone. The government decides what truth the public will hear. Sounds like a repressive Soviet-style regime or a George Orwell novel, right?

In fact, it's Canada.

And Canadian scientists are so fed up with being muzzled that they got together and wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, condemning the gag law.

The letter cites, as an example, Dr. Kristina Miller who was forbidden to give interviews about the decline of sockeye salmon--even after her research had been published in the august journal "Science."

Tell Canada that you support the right of scientists to talk directly to the media about important issues that affect the lives of Canada's citizens.
We the undersigned ask that you immediately rescind the gag law that prohibits scientists from speaking directly to the media. The intention of this law cannot be in the interests of Canada or anyone else on the planet. People have a right to know what scientists are learning about climate change, declining fisheries, the potential damage of proposed oil pipelines, etc. These issues directly impact the lives of Canadians every day and they deserve to hear the truth from impartial researchers, not just from agenda-ridden politicians. Unmuzzle your scientists!
