Rep. Matt Shea, a Republican from Washington, has proven himself to be a dangerous extremist multiple times in recent history:
- He wrote a manifesto encouraging the forceful spread of Christianity, including the killing of all men who don't join the cause.
- He used his position to conduct background checks on liberal activists so his far-right associates who were threatening violence could intimidate them at their home and jobs.
- He encouraged followers to take up arms and forms militias in anticipation of upcoming unrest.
- His many associations with far-right, white nationalist groups.
Late last year, Republicans removed Shea as the leader of their caucus, but it's become clear his violent views make him unfit for office altogether. House Democrats have appropriately called on Republicans to oust him from the caucus altogether, but so far they've balked at the suggestion.
Let's encourage the Washington GOP to do the right thing here.
If they reject Shea's extremist stances, they ought to reject him as well. Someone like Shea should not be a lawmaker or an affiliated Republican, for that matter.
