Fracking is when oil companies drill 60 miles down and 20 miles horizontally to reach the Marcellus Shale after this there are three stages the first stage is Perforation.Charges are loaded into a perforating gun then a electric current is sent to the perforating gun to ignite the charges.The charges then explode creating small fractures in the Marcellus Shale.The second stage is Fracturing.Fracking fluid is sent to the small fractures in the Marcellus Shale the fluid makes the fractures bigger so the gases can flow out.The last stage is Production.“After all sections have been fracked,plugs are drilled out and the gas flows to the surface.”This process can take up to 6 months for one site.
