Amazon price gauging during holidays Illegal and unethical

As an avid Amazon Prime member it is unethical that the company uses situations to manipulate their prices. Prices on Amazon are being doubled sometimes tripled for an item. At least stores as Walmart and Target will show " Out of stock " for an item that everyome is wanting to purchase. There is no reason to bring up the price of an item because of the demand on a franchise store selling regular items. In case of a national security issue will Amazon gauge their prices on water or kids formula for example?
