Trump spoke in front of an audience of Suffolk County Police and family and called on them to
use violence against anyone in their custody. The crowd cheered as Trump told them not to shield a detainee's head on their way into a police car.
He used dehumanizing language, calling people animals, while riling the crowd to anger. Dehumanizing anyone makes commiting violence against them easier and it was wildly irresponsible and dangerous for Trump to do this.
In this country, regardless of a person's crime, they have the right not to be brutalized by the authorities. The justice system decides their guilt and punishment, not the police.
This is unacceptable rhetoric in a country with an already out of hand police brutality problem. Suffolk County is already the site of incredible civil rights violations. Former Police Chief James Burke
was charged just this week.
