In a shocking departure from historical precedent, the Boy Scout jamboree played host to a highly partisan, political stump speech from Donald Trump. As an Eagle Scout, I was shocked to see and hear the jamboree treated like a Trump rally.
In a rambling address which veered from attacking the media, to disparaging his predecessor (an actual scout), the only element of Scout Law that Trump referred to was loyalty - but clearly Trump only cares about loyalty to himself, not loyalty to our country and its values.
The Boy Scouts of America must stand up for the entirety of the Scout Law and clearly rebuke this highly inappropriate address. Please immediately issue a statement which condemns the tone and content of Trump's address at the the 2017 Jamboree.
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
The Oath that I was honored to follow urges me to act now, and I hope it will inspire the organization's leaders to speak out as well:
On my honor I will do my best
to do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
to help other people at all times;
to keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
As Scouts and supporters, please sign my petition and urge our leaders to be courageous in their defense of our traditions and our values.
