Demand Press Freedom for the People of Thailand

  • von: Michael Taylor
  • empfänger: Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister of Thailand

Thailand's new military regime is severely limiting freedom of the press, and the people of Thailand need our help to protect their freedom.

Freedom of the press is the freedom enables journalists to report, analyze, and comment without fear. A government that shrinks from public access to the truth is often a government that does not want the truth to be known. By blinding the public, the government can sway the masses as they please and by and large protect themselves from any sort of scrutiny. Lack of transparency means lack of accountability.

As of the May 22, 2014 coup in Thiland, views opposing the military junta have been restricted by the military regime. Some who have publicly and peacefully expressed their anti-coup sentiment have even been detained. These restrictions have come in the form of three orders. The most recent one, Order No.5 bans criticism of the NCPO (National Council for Peace and Order) and authorities.

You can make a difference today. You can help bring this to the world's attention and you can pressure the ruling Junta of Thailand to ease restrictions of one of the most basic of human rights — the freedom to express yourself, the freedom to hear the truth, the freedom to speak the truth, and the freedom to tolerate it if you don't like it.

Make your mark, sign this petition and help Thailand to take a step towards true freedom. Urge Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister of Thailand to repeal his three draconian orders and restore freedom to Thailand once more.
