Lilly Wachowski - co-director of the acclaimed Matrix trilogy - recently released a statement in which she came out as transgender. Unfortunately, Lilly was forced to do so against her will, and only did so because a reporter from the Daily Mail allegedly threatened her with exposure if she did not agree to an interview with their publication.

respect and to stop outing trans and queer individuals!
In her statement, Wachowski said, “I just wanted—needed some time to get my head right, to feel comfortable. But apparently I don't get to decide this.”
Wachowski pointed out the the Daily Mail has done this before, with devastating consequences. A Daily Mail editorial that outed Lucy Meadows, a transgender teacher in the UK, resulted in her suicide in 2013.
Coming out is an important, deeply personal, and courageous step in anyone queer person's journey, and news organizations should never force anyone to come out against their will, before they are ready.
