Poverty in New Zealand

Our National Party Government is turning a blind eye to the poverty in our country and even admitt there is none. TV 3 has been doing their Campbell Live programme on the subject of poverty and one family of a father with two children are left with $5.00 a week to feed themselves after paying their rent. Naturally the children suffer and go to low decile schools, where they are sometimes provided with breakfast and lunch. Schools should'nt have to do this, but they realise how many families are struggling. Hungry kids do not learn. This is only one example, but there are thousands of families out there suffering the same plight, while our government just ignores the problem and say's it is how these families spend their money. The Government in the meantime do not mind spending money and talk about us changing our flag which should be a very last consideration. Currently Fonterra are supplying some of these schools with milk and Sanatarium are supplying Weetbix because they are aware of many families that struggle day to day, because there is no work out there with so much unemployment in our country.
