Tell the FDA to Crack Down on Mislabeled Seafood!

A new report from Oceana reveals that the nation's most popular seafood, shrimp, is often mislabled. This makes it impossible for consumers to determine how and where shrimp was caught or farmed.

Last summer, a report from The Guardian found that shrimp sold in two major grocery chains is produced in part by the work of abused slaves. Oceana's report found that 30 percent of 143 shrimp products from 111 grocery stores and restaurants is misrepresented. Even the species of shrimp is questionable -- one sample of frozen seafood contained a banded coral shrimp prized by aquarium enthusiasts. It was a shock to find it in a bag of food.

People have the right to know the species of shrimp they are eating, and the process by which it was caught and farmed. Please sign the petition to urge the FDA to crack down on mislabeled seafood!

We believe that people have the right to know the species of shrimp they are eating, and the process by which it was caught and farmed. We respectfully urge you to step up efforts to enforce seafood labeling laws, and to prosecute those found in violation of these laws. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
