Petition To Fully Re-Open Sleepy Creek WMA Shooting Range
We, the undersigned, agree with the statement: "The Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia is disproportionately underserved by the Division of Natural Resources public shooting facilities. Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area, District #3, because of a minority of irresponsible shooters, is currently restricted to shotgun discharge only - and slugs cannot be fired. We seek immediate, full resumption of handgun, shotgun, and rifle discharge. Such discharge will be performed in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with range safety rules, West Virginia law, and common sense.
The Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia is the fastest growing region in West Virginia, and yet has the smallest access to safe public shooting ranges. As such, the citizenry is denied a full and comperable opportunity to participate in safety and marksmanship training, when compared to other Districts of the Division of Natural Resources. We respectfully seek remedy to this injustice, and believe the minority of irresponsible individuals should never dictate the rights to the majority."
