Hollywood has a habit of shoe-horning stars into roles taken from novels that they were never meant to play. Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher is the biggest casting gaffe in the history of film. I have read every Jack Reacher book by Lee Childs. Jack Reacher is as big as a house. 6' 5", 250 lbs, arms like legs,  legs like tree trunks. To look at him is to be intimidated. Tom Cruise is cute. To look at him is to want to pinch his cheek.
