As a parent of a child at McClatchey Elementary, I am concerned about the overreaction that the school districts are entertaining for the 20-21 school year. Although we appreciate the strides that were taken to finish out this school year amid the Coronavirus outbreak so that our child could stay on track, that format will not be acceptable moving forward. As a parent, I look to the school for more than education. The relationships he forms with caring adults and the friends he forms through classes and programs are essential. Please know that if McClatchey or the school district decides for the 20-21 school year that masks must be worn and social distancing enforced, we will withdraw our child and seek a private institution or homeschooling for this will be the only real options. Note: This is not a political email. My opinions on the validity or severity of this disease has nothing to do with pulling our child out. We have loved McClatchey and the staff. It will be with great sadness and consternation to have to withdraw our child with such an enjoyable first three years.
