Can Heavy Industry Make a Good Neighbor?

As land owners and neighbors of the Price pasture we feel there are many reasons why changing the zoning from agriculture to heavy industry is not a good idea.

    *Increased auto traffic

    *Increased truck traffic

    *Increased train traffic

*Increased blockage of crossings (Ask our friends on Road 190 about this.)

*All of the above could possibly be happening 24 hours a day.

*All of the above would have a negative impact on children getting on and off school buses.

    *Road maintenance?

*Road 200 is used as an alternate route to Emporia when flooding is an issue. This is a nightmare for those of us living on Road 200 and Road R and possibly Road S. The roads are not maintained to handle that kind of traffic and the drivers are often clueless about driving gravel roads. Fortunately, this is something that doesn't happen often. It would be an everyday occurrence if there was an industrial park down the road.

    *Noise

*Proximity of road to houses along Road S

*Taxes? (for both the surrounding landowners, developers, and industries)

*What would present (or future) commissioners permit? (After sitting in on the zoning board meeting who can we trust?)

Many of us have lived in the surrounding areas for many years and some of us are relatively new to the area. Some of us moved to the country to escape all the things one deals with in the city. Some of us not only live here but work here as well tending crops and raising cattle. One thing we all have in common is that we never expected to have an industrial park for a neighbor.
