Save Jedidiah

This is a petition to save the life of a little dog named Jedidah, a 12 year old Chihuahua with a perineal hernia. He needs a $6,000 surgery immediately to save his life -a laparotomy to inspect his bowel and resect any unhealthy bowel and a hernia repair. His life expectancy without the surgery is at any time. The owner did not have the full amount of funds, which is what was needed in order for Jedidiah to have the surgery immediately.

Jedidiah, or "Jeddy Bear" as he is affectionately called is not an ordinary dog. In 2007, Jedidiah was rescued from an extreme hoarding situation in Tucson, Ariz. The Chihuahua was one of over 700 dogs that were saved from deplorable living conditions. He had to have all of his teeth removed due to periodontal disease and was very fearful of dogs and other people. However, with his dedicated new owner he managed to thrive and was able to give and receive love. His owner knew he had a will to live then and says he still does now.

The amount of pain and suffering this animal has already been through and the urgent nature of his circumstances is a big reason why 1,226 people have "liked" Jedidiahs facebook page. All it takes is one visit to his facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SAVEJedidiah/info to see how much support this one dog has gathered. Some people are auctioning off their belongings on e-bay to help pay for his surgery. Many have donated to his paypal and gofundme accounts http://www.gofundme.com/2ykxcg and have donated to the vet directly. Some people can only help by sharing his story or by writing articles, like this one http://www.examiner.com/article/a-village-fights-to-save-the-life-of-ailing-dog-saved-from-hoarding-situation. More recently, an organization, In Memory of Magic http://www.imom.org/community/index.php?showtopic=9526 has raised $2205 in donations. However, in spite of all of this generosity from others, time is of the essence and we appeal to you to authorize a solution to help us save Jedidiah. We understand there is a policy and procedure that VCA hospitals follow in terms of finances. However, we wanted to make you aware of the number of people following the story and prognosis of this little dog. Without an intervention from a higher authority, we are afraid the funds will not be raised in the precious time that Jedidiah has left. Please allow the vet Dr. Cabrera at

VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital

to operate with the funds raised thus far. We will continue to fundraise to pay for the entire amount of surgery. We hope you are able to aid in authorizing a solution so that Jedidiah gets his surgery before it is too late. Thank you for all you and your hospitals do for the animals.
