Don't Ruin Opelika!

  • von: Kitty Greene

Opelika is known for its 3 beautiful historic districts. Now out-of-state developers want to build 182 modern looking apartments on S. 10th Street next to the Police Station. This area is original Opelika and includes the oldest buildings and houses in our city. This complex would literally "frame" our downtown historic district. Do we want visitors to wonder why historic Opelika is beginning to look like just any other southern town?

What can you do to protect Opelika's historic character?

1. Sign this petition and make comments.
2. Attend the Opelika City Council Meeting on March 15 at 7 pm (Opelika Municipal Court - Meeting Chambers 300 MLK Boulevard)
3. Contact Mayor Gary Fuller and your city council members to voice your opinion.
4. Share this link.

Remember. Once history is lost, it can never be brought back!

Update #5vor 3 Jahren
The planning commission is meeting at 3 pm today (4/26) concerning the proposed apartment complex downtown. It sounds like they want to change the zoning definition of C1 and then potentially commit city funds to widening the road for the developer, which is not aligned with what people want or what they expressed at the meetings. Changing the zoning definition could allow no retail on 1st floor and increase density.. If you have a chance to attend the meeting, please do..
Update #4vor 3 Jahren
The City Council will have a final reading and vote on proposed zoning changes for this complex on Tuesday April 5th at 6.45 pm at in the Opelika Municipal Court Meeting Chambers 300 MLK Blvd Opelika.
This meeting is where they decide to approve or not approve the apartments, so please show up and share your opinions.
