Family PACT: Expand birth control pills options in your coverage

Family PACT is a wonderful option that aims to provide family planning options and reproductive health coverage for women and men of low income families. It includes various birth control options, STI testing, HIV testing and cancer screening. Unfortunately, it does not cover a segment of birth control pills that many women prefer; those containing drosperinone as the progestin component.
Mixed birth control pills contain a progestin (such as levonorgestrel, ethindronate) and an estrogen (generally ethinyl estradiol). Some of the side-effects and many additional benefits vary depending on the progestin. Drosperinone is, for some women, the ideal since it has anti-androgenic effects leading to a lower risk of weight gain and treating acne. It is also considered to provide highly stable hormone levels leading to decreased mood problems in women with PMS.
Despite being such a great option, these birth control options (some brands include: Yaz, Nikki, Loryna) are not included in Family PACT coverage and their cost can make them impossible to acquire out-of-pocket for some families ($60-80 per month).
Family PACT, please include drosperinone / ethinyl estradiol birth control pills in your coverage.
