Tell Disney: Distribute the new independent hand-drawn animated project, Hullabaloo.

The Walt Disney Company has been associated with not only family entertainment, but also the art of animation since its inception back in 1923. The people currently working at the company's animation division, especially chief creative officer John Lasseter, love the art of hand-drawn animation (Disney's specialty during both its golden age and its so-called "Disney Renaissance"), and we appreciate the fact that they have been trying to bring it back with 2009's The Princess and the Frog. However, there were three problems that had it and its successor, 2011's Winnie the Pooh, not do so well during their respective theatrical releases. One factor was the poor marketing of both films. The marketing team at Disney did not give either film much respect, and right now, even the good CG animated films Disney was involved with (like Wreck-it Ralph and the box-office smash Frozen) were marketed like they were done by DreamWorks. But, the biggest factor is that Disney tried to bring back hand-drawn animation for theatres themselves, and this is currently at a time when no one else in Hollywood, especially studios like 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Universal, is willing to make any hand-drawn movies ever again, because they (stupidly) see them as box office poison, and see CG as the true money-maker in the game, which is why Disney had to shrink the 2D animation division in 2013.

What they should have done before attempting this beautiful artform again at a time when Hollywood executives at other big studios are too focused on CG was wait until a startup studio that is ambitious and willing to take a risk aimed at making hand-drawn animation in terms of feature films mainstream again, see if the the startup's finished product is a surprise success, and then try to take a shot at it themselves if the said traditionally animated film is successful. Now just might be Disney's second chance, because a handful of former Disney animators, many of them part of 2013's layoffs, and a few (including Proud Family creator Bruce W. Smith) being freelancers to begin with, are doing a new independent hand-drawn film project called Hullabaloo. It's a steampunk adventure which has plot details that are unknown as of now, but it has a lot of potential. These talented individuals want to target this at wide audiences, starting with a short film, and possibly a feature. I am asking the wonderful people at The Walt Disney Company to support these talented people and their plans to being back hand-drawn feature animation for the masses. That way the company themselves might want to take a stab at it once again.

To: The Walt Disney Company

Many hand-drawn animators, some being Disney veterans, are doing a new ambitious project called Hullabaloo. Right now it's just a series of shorts, but hopefully they will be able to do a hand-drawn feature aimed at general audiences, and not just people who go to arthouses in the big cities. Please support them on their endeavors and help distribute this project.

Sincerely,
