Stop Foreign Interference In Our Elections!

The clock is ticking. In less than 6 months, Americans will head to the polls to vote in the 2018 midterm elections. It is shocking that our Federal Election Commission (FEC) has still not taken action to protect against election interference like we saw during the 2016 election.

Foreign interference is an attack on the integrity of our elections and a threat to our democracy.

The FEC is the federal agency in charge of enforcing campaign finance laws – including the ban on foreign actors meddling in U.S. elections.

But the FEC has not been doing its job. The FEC created the loopholes that allowed dark money groups to potentially disguise Russian money in the 2016 elections. It sat on its hands while millions of dollars were spent on digital political ads that omitted disclaimers stating who paid for them – allowing thousands of Russia's Facebook ads to circulate without detection.

This isn't about one election. It's about the future of our democracy. The FEC is critical to safeguard our future elections. To start, it must craft adequate rules and enforce them.

This isn't a partisan issue – all Americans care about the future of our democracy. Any party or candidate who receives illegal foreign "help" today could well be on the other end of foreign spending tomorrow.
