Don't Let Big Retailers Pass Fees on to You!

Paying with a credit card is normally a convenience. But if retailers start to charge a check-out fee every time you use a credit card, will it still be convenient, or just expensive?

Retail companies are trying to limit consumer choice with price controls and check-out fees. Consumers will not only feel discouraged from using credit cards, but they will be penalized with a fee if they do so.

We can't let big companies take away our personal right to use a credit card at will. Retailers should not be passing fees on to the very consumers who bring them profits.

Tell Congress to preserve your right to consumer choice! Say NO to check-out fees!

Dear Legislator:

As a consumer who appreciates choice in the marketplace, I am very concerned about recent articles and advertisements I have seen by our nation's big retailers calling for transparency in electronic payments and regulation of the interchange fee. It seems as if retailers are really after the ability to shift their cost of doing business onto consumers through price controls and a check-out fee.

If retailers really cared about transparency, wouldn't they disclose all their costs of doing business to the consumer, including their wholesale costs? If price controls were implemented, retailers would only pass more fees on to customers while they enjoy more profits.

Please see through the retailers' lobbying campaign as simply an effort to increase their profits at the expense of consumers.

Sincerely,
