Tell California State Senators to Approve the California DISCLOSE Act

AB 700 would signal the end of special interests being able to legally to deceive voters about who is really paying for political ads — including ballot measure ads and SuperPAC ads supporting or attacking candidates!

This could be the biggest blow yet against the unlimited secret money unleashed by Citizens United! AB 700 would requiring that ballot measure ads and ads about candidates by outside groups clearly and prominently disclose their top 3 true funders — on the ads themselves.

AB 700 passed the Assembly with an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 60-15 after more than 14,000 people like you emailed and called their Assemblymembers in the four days before the vote. Now we have to start putting the pressure on the Senate to do the right thing, too.

AB 700 is scheduled for its final vote on Tuesday, August 30th. Please sign the petition now to email your Senator to vote "Yes!
Dear [Your State Senator],

It's wrong to let political ads mislead voters about who paid for them. Knowing the true identity of the messenger is critical to evaluating the credibility of the message.

I'm asking you to right this wrong. Please pass AB 700, the California DISCLOSE Act, to require the three largest funders of ballot measure ads or ads about candidates by outside groups to be shown clearly and unambiguously — on the ads themselves.

Thank you. The fact that AB 700 passed the Assembly on a vote of 60-15 shows that an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the Assembly understands the need to expose secret money in politics. Now it's your turn.
