Oppose Sen. Cruz's reckless plan to ban refugees from entering the U.S.

What happened in Paris was a heartbreaking reminder of how important it is that we stand together as a country united against terrorism, and remember what makes America great.

But far too many Republicans like Senator Ted Cruz have rushed to use those attacks as an excuse to block Syrian refugees from entering our country. He introduced a bill that would block refugees from any country "that contains territory substantially controlled by a foreign terrorist organization."

Syrian refugees are escaping the very same terrorism that the world witnessed in Paris and Beirut. Thousands have been killed, millions have been displaced, and countless livelihoods destroyed by the likes of ISIS (or "Daesh") and the Assad regime.

Immigrants are the foundation of this great nation, made strong by diverse perspectives and traditions. Mayor John Fetterman’s wife Gisele immigrated to this country with her mother when she was eight years old in search of a better future. As Americans, we must uphold that promise of freedom and opportunity, now and every day.

Simply turning our backs on refugees fleeing political and religious persecution is not the American way.

Sign the petition to stand with Mayor John Fetterman and tell Congress: Oppose Senator Cruz's misguided, reckless plan.
In America, we compassionately value freedom and keep our doors open to those escaping unimaginable violence and hardship in search of a better life. It's what makes our country great.

Senator Ted Cruz's bill — the Terrorist Refugee Infiltration Prevention Act of 2015 — is reckless and against everything this country stands for. Stand up to Republicans: Oppose this bill.
