Call it a Green New Deal or call it common sense. Something needs to be done, not tomorrow or next year, but today.

However, despite the urgency of the situation, the US Senate decided that addressing climate change and the income inequality it creates is not important. And the chief of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that action on climate change will "not be a top priority" of the department.

Our dependency on fossil fuels harms us by targeting communities of color and rural areas the most. A Green New Deal should be implemented to provide jobs, create a healthy environment for our children and grandchildren to live, and to allow American innovation to lead, not lag behind. Climate change affects us all.

My name is Joe Neguse and I'm honored to represent Colorado's 2nd Congressional District. I was one of the first members of Congress to support the Green New Deal.
