Ask Senators McCain and Obama to Commit to Supporting the UN!
The United States' reputation around the world has suffered in recent years, partially because we have not been fulfilling our commitments to the United Nations. Eighty percent of American voters now agree that the United States needs to work more with its allies and through international organizations like the UN.
Both Senators McCain and Obama have voiced their support for increasing the United States' cooperation with our allies and working more through international institutions. We need to make sure they back up this support by committing to fully funding the United Nations.
Tell Senators McCain and Obama to commit to paying off the United States' current $1 billion debt to the United Nations and to paying our bills to the UN and UN peacekeeping on time, in full, and without conditions, On Day One of their administration.
Dear Senators McCain and Obama,
Both of you have voiced your general support for increasing American cooperation with our allies and working more through international organizations. As a supporter of greater international cooperation so we are not going it alone in the world, I would like you to support a strengthened U.S.-UN relationship should you become president.
On Day One, I ask that you commit to renewing the U.S.-UN relationship by paying off the United States' current $1 billion debt to the United Nations and honoring our future commitments to the UN and UN peacekeeping on time, in full, and without conditions.
Thank you for your consideration.
