To have Gary "Harv" Galbraith Acknowledged in Memory at Hyland Baseball Park located in Shelburne

    Gary “Harv” Galbraith

We the undersigned would like to have Gary "Harv" Galbraith considered for a diamond located at Hyland Baseball park, Shelburne to be renamed in his memory. Gary was a dedicated pillar in the baseball community supporting Shelburne Schooners, Shelburne Men's 3 Pitch and community fundraisers supporting minor baseball.
Gary started to play competitive baseball at the age of 16 for the Whitfield Sr. Baseball Club. They played at a small community diamond in Whitfield located north of Primrose. The club moved their home games to Shelburne in the early 80's so that they had the opportunity to play under the lights. In 1989 the club folded. Gary quickly joined the Shelburne Schooners.
Gary became a leader for the club and in 2004 and took over the responsibilities of the team as a player and the coach. Gary actively recruited young talent to join the club and many are still with the team today. Gary and the Schooners were successful together and were able to win a championship together.
Gary was also a member of the Shelburne Men's Thursday night 3-Pitch League. Gary played for the Diggers who had the opportunity to win multiple Year End tournaments! Gary had his own business which afforded him the opportunity to always ensure that the diamonds were in good condition and volunteered to drag the diamond in preparation for the next big game!
Gary led many fundraiser which supported senior men's baseball and Shelburne minor baseball. Baseball was embedded into the fabric of Gary, through game prep, coaching, recruiting, and fundraising and as an avid player.
To say that baseball was a passion for Gary is an understatement. The day of Gary's untimely passing, Saturday June 12th, 2011, Gary participated in the Men's 3 Pitch tournament where the Diggers were once again victorious. That evening Gary went home, fell asleep in his ball uniform and never woke up again. For many in the community, it was a huge shock and loss of a dear friend, family man and team mate.
Today for many as they continue to play ball at Hyland Park, they think fondly of Gary and the good times that were had and the memories and are still shared today. It is our hope that we can recognize Gary Galbraith for all his contributions not only to the game of baseball but to the community of Shelburne.
