Protect Canada's Caribou

Canada's woodland caribou are in urgent danger. In Alberta, some herds have dwindled to fewer than 100 members.

You can take action today and help save the Woodland Caribou.

Caribou are considered a threatened species under Canada's Species at Risk Act, but in Alberta, tar sands development and forestry operations are driving vulnerable herds to the brink of collapse.

Thanks to a very recent Ecojustice win, federal Environment Minister Peter Kent must reconsider the government's stance on emergency protections for north-eastern Alberta's woodland caribou. A federal court judge also ruled that Minister Kent has until Sept. 1 to produce the long-awaited draft recovery strategy for the Woodland Caribou, which is already four years overdue.

Meanwhile, Ontario is currently waffling on protecting their own caribou, placing additional populations at risk.

Don't let Canada's caribou disappear. Tell the Environment Minister to implement urgent action to protect Canada's caribou today.
Dear Minister of the Environment,

Canada's woodland caribou are in urgent danger. In Alberta, some herds have less than 100 caribou left.

Caribou are considered threatened species under Canada's Species at Risk Act, yet Alberta's tar sands development and forestry operations are driving vulnerable herds to the brink of collapse.

Alberta has refused to implement a moratorium on mineral and timber allocations in caribou ranges. And the Canadian government has committed to proposing a national caribou recovery strategy, but it could take another three to five years to put into motion. To save the caribou, we must take action today.

I urge you to help save Canada's caribou by recommending emergency protections for the caribou and immediately halting industrial expansion in their critical habitat areas.
