In Nevada, ninety percent of gun background checks are completed within 90 second or less.

Unfortunately, loopholes in state law mean that these quick, potentially life-saving checks aren't always required and it is still far too easy for felons, domestic abusers and people with severe mental illnesses to purchase deadly weapons.

The Background Check Initiative is a common-sense proposal that would close the loopholes in Nevada law to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals and improve public safety in Nevada by requiring criminal background checks for all gun sales, with reasonable exceptions for family, hunting, and self-defense.

Under The Background Check Initiative, unlicensed sellers will meet their buyers at a licensed gun dealer, who can agree to conduct a background check on the seller's behalf. Over 97% of Nevadans live within 10 miles of a licensed gun dealer, so keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals would be easy and convenient for responsible gun purchasers and sellers.
