Do Not Rob Families Of Their Food Assistance!

Can you imagine having to choose between paying the power bill or feeding your kids? Sadly, every day many Colorado families are facing this gut-wrenching decision. More than 815,000 Coloradans have experienced food hardship.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, is a key tool in combating hunger. As the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net, SNAP provides financial assistance to eligible, low-income individuals and families so that they can buy food.

Right now, the future of this critical lifeline is hanging in the balance. As it stands, SNAP already requires most adults to work to receive benefits. However, in the latest version of the farm bill, which includes SNAP, House Republicans backed by the Trump administration callously tacked on new, onerous work requirements.

These inhumane requirements would cut food benefits for between 800,000 and 1.1 million households across the country.

Fortunately, thanks to pushback from the Senate, the latest version of the bill has been stripped of these requirements. Now, we just need the Senate to pass it and the president to sign.

Sign and tell President Trump to not rob needy families of their food assistance and sign this version of SNAP when it lands on his desk.
