Trump: Keep the Census Honest and Don't Appoint Brunell

Donald Trump is expected to appoint Thomas Brunell, a conservative professor with no relevant experience who speaks in favor of gerrymandering, to be the deputy secretary of the census.

It may seem like a fairly insignificant position, but a proper population count is what determines accurate representation for voters. As Rolling Stone explains, there's a lot of room for shenanigans:

Americans need to be able trust the final count, not worry that communities of color were undercounted due to a lack of funds or will. Trump, just because Republicans could make partisan gains through the census does not mean it's the right thing to do. Please appoint a non-controversial and non-partisan government statistics expert to this position and ensure that there is an accurate count.
